What is a Madurkathi dining set?

Madurkathi is a traditional grass-weaving craft associated with West Bengal, particularly the Midnapore region. Artisans weave the reed into mats and other useful household pieces. A dining set combines placemats, a runner, or both; the exact combination depends on the product and variant selected.

At GrassCrafts, The Nilachal Suite: Hand-Woven Madurkathi Dining Set is listed with options for four table mats, six table mats, six mats with one runner, and a runner-only option. Check the selected variant before adding the item to your cart, because the price and contents differ.

How to choose the right table-mat combination

  • Four placemats: Consider this for a smaller table or a compact everyday setting.
  • Six placemats: A useful option when you regularly set places for six.
  • Six placemats plus a runner: Choose this when you want a coordinated centre line as well as individual place settings.
  • Runner only: A simple way to add woven texture to a console, sideboard or dining table.

These are general styling suggestions, not a guarantee that one size suits every table. Check the listed dimensions and measure your table before ordering.

What should you check before buying?

  • Material: Read the product details to confirm the listed fibre and thread composition.
  • Dimensions: Check placemat and runner measurements against your tableware and table size.
  • Set contents: Confirm whether the selected option includes four mats, six mats, a runner, or a combination.
  • Colour and weave: Use the selected variant and product photographs as your reference. Handmade pieces can have small variations in texture and finish.
  • Care: Natural-fibre mats should be kept dry between uses and cleaned gently.

How do you care for Madurkathi table mats?

After use, remove crumbs and wipe gently with a dry or slightly damp cloth if needed. Let the mats air-dry fully before storing. Avoid soaking or machine-washing them. Use a suitable trivet under very hot cookware rather than placing a hot pan directly on a woven mat. Follow any additional care guidance on the individual product page.

Can businesses order Madurkathi dining sets in bulk?

Natural-fibre dining mats can suit boutique hospitality settings, curated housewarming gifts, festive hampers and corporate gifting projects. For a bulk enquiry, share the product or pattern, number of sets, preferred colour or variant, delivery PIN code and required delivery date. GrassCrafts will confirm current availability, pricing and delivery feasibility before an order is finalised. Minimum quantities and lead times should be confirmed for each enquiry rather than assumed.
